All's fair in love and .......cookies?
A couple of months ago my youngest started dating a lovely young man. His name is Mark. I have liked Mark from the very beginning. He is polite, respectful, and he treats Arly the way he should. Needless to say, he has scored BIG POINTS with "da mamma."
However, The "dadda" has always been suspicious of every young man dating either of his daughters, and his usual conversation when any of these boys come to visit is the "dad stare" or a grunt.
Even poor ol' Mark received the "grunt" treatment his first few visits.
But lately, it's obvious the Drew has warmed up to him, and although he does not want to admit it...Drew likes Mark.
The other day, Mark was waiting downstairs, and Arly and I were upstairs.
Suddenly, her and I were shocked as we listened to the two of them making actual conversation with each other. Before we knew it Drew had taken Mark outside to the garage to show him his new "work project". The "work project" is a big deal to Drew and generally is off limit's. Off-limits to everyone!!!!
Her and I had to giggle because we instantly knew this was a good sign.
After Arly and Mark left I could not help but say to Drew
ME: "Soooo...what do you think of Mark?"
HIM: "he's ok"
ME: "just ok?"
HIM: " what do you want me to say? I'm not about to start baking cookies with him or anything...he's ok...just ok"
Well tonight, Arly is at work and it's just myself and Drew watching TV. Suddenly the doorbell rings! Drew goes to answer it. It's Mark! He has brought some part for the "work project" that he knows Drew was looking for and could not find.
For 20 minutes these two stand in the front porch talking ..and laughing (yes that's right, Drew was laughing)
So I could not help myself....
When Drew finally came back in and sat down I passed this card to him

foxsydee: it's funny you say that, because after reading something(s) you've written, I often think ...wow, I could have said that/done that!
I always relate to you and your blogs!! actually...it sounds like we have alot of similiar thought processes.
Rob: thanks ;-)
healthypanda: yes it is always harder for the dad to like the boyfriend...partly because the dad remembers how he was as a young kid..lol...but mostly because a dad feels he needs to protect his daughter.
And thanks...I think they are pretty cute together too!!
Toe-Knee: I don't know what it is about men and their daughters. It's tough to break that barrier, but from what I know of you I have no doubt break it you will..*wink. (hang in there)
Good story though, you should publish a book of short stories.
Thanks...you are so kind...I would bake YOU cookies anyday!!!!
It's been 6 years. I've taken care of her, make decent money and I've helped him move sheds... he doesn't hate me, and he knows I treat his daughter well, we've just never been huge pals. Though everyone else is scared silly of him, and I've never really been intimidated... so I guess that's something.
Toe-knee: yes that is something!
If he is anything like the room-mate he would never truly admit to liking you anyway... even though he probably does. It's as if a dad can never let his guard down...not really sure what that is all about...I guess it's a man thing..lol
Thanks MrSnappy
lol Kirk...yup, he's a smart one! haha..thanks for stopping to comment..I appreciate it!
lol Bill...you betcha I've tested it...tested it over and over...they turn out awesome! ;-)
