Today, as my husband and I were at the local coffee shop we witnessed this conversation.

Foreign Customer: Kafee pulease

Worker: Sorry???

Foreign Customer: kafee pulease..

Worker: puzzled look on her face

Foreign Customer: KAFEE (as he holds up & shakes his empty coffee thermos)

Worker: AHHHHH...(as begins speaking very slowly ......and very loudly) YOU. WANT. COFFEE?

Worker: WOULD. YOU. LIKE. YOUR. COFFEE. BLACK. SIR?

Why is it when someone does not speak our language, we automatically assume they are also deaf?

kaffee is a german word - foreign customer was from germany or austria i guess!?

To answer your question: too many movies, lol

I had no problem when I went to China. The Chinese picked up on everything I asked.

Doesn't work that way over here. I think it is because most of the "younger" generation has those ear buds in most of the time and are going deaf themselves. LOL Maybe they are talking loud so they can hear themselves.
